SEEK HIM ~ SEE HIM ~ SAVOR HIM

Giving Good Gifts Like Apple Watches

by | Dec 24, 2020 | Children, Family, God's Word | 2 comments

A few months ago, my husband bought our children Apple watches. My immediate responses included: “What!?” “They don’t need those!” “Are you kidding me?” “You could’ve at least waited until Christmas?!”

I guess you could say, I did not agree with the gesture. But he was so excited to give them to the kids, he couldn’t wait until Christmas.

The more I thought about it, the more I thought of how kind and generous it was of him to do. It made me think of this verse:

“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask Him.”

Matthew 7:11

Giving gifts to people is so fun, isn’t it? Christmas morning is fun because we can’t wait to see how much others love what we have given them and wrapped up for them. It’s a joy! And much better to give than to receive, isn’t it?

So if it’s this way for us, sinful humans, how much more does our perfect Heavenly Father give good gifts? To me, it shows His love and generosity to us, a fallible human race. He longs to give His children their hearts desires….in His will and ways, not our own, because His ways are better.

“But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

The greatest gift we have ever been given from God is in His Son Jesus. In Him we have salvation. In Him we have hope and eternal life. He has given us the gift of His Holy Spirit to live equipped in the here and now.

He gives us peace as a gift. He grants us the fruits of the Spirit when we surrender to His leading.

We have the gift of His Holy Word to guide us and be a light unto our paths.

Are we utilizing these gifts given to us by our good, Heavenly Father? I know I don’t always.

But these are gifts that keep on giving and that are readily available when we call upon His name. It’s so beautiful, isn’t it!? They are eternal gifts that fill our souls in a way no earthly, temporary gift can. He is so good to us!

So tomorrow morning, Christmas 2020, as you watch your loved ones open gifts and as you open gifts, remember how loved you are and how much God loves giving us good gifts. Now that is true Christmas Cheer.

Happy Birthday to our Lord and Savior Jesus. May we focus on the greatest gift ever in Him today! (and remind our children it’s His Birthday not theirs! HA!)

Merry Christmas dear friends, Sarah
