I had a conversation with God yesterday in tears that I know He is good and faithful but I just don’t understand Him.
I don’t understand why certain prayers go seemingly unanswered for years. I don’t understand why bad things happen to good people. I don’t understand why He allows some of what He allows. It breaks my heart, surely it breaks His too? But couldn’t He relent? Isn’t He in charge? Don’t the winds and waves obey Him?
This world is so unfair. But because I know God’s character I know He is fair and just. How can He possibly bring good out of this destruction? Because I know His word says in Romans 8:28 that He works all thing together for GOOD for those who love Him.
My flesh and mind are failing me and I am at a loss but I know to pour out my heart to Him in prayer, press into who I know He is.
We trust in His character, but we can’t always understand his ways.
Isaiah 55:8,9: “My thoughts are not your thoughts. My ways are not your ways.” (To which, sometimes in my frustration, I reply, “I know Lord because I would do things differently!”)
We focus on who He is and His faithfulness in our lives, and not what we see with our eyes.
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”
Psalms 42:5
We know this world is fallen, our bodies are fallen and it’s NOT THE WAY IT’s SUPPOSED TO BE! God’s plan for us was never grief and heartache but because of the fall, it happens.
We know who His character is, and we know we may not always understand what’s going on in the world or have answers to our “Why’s”, but by knowing HIM, we can have hope and a place to cast our anger and fear.
His character is: good, faithful, fair, just, kind, gentle, hope, peace, love, grace, sovereign, all knowing, always working, always everywhere. Just to name a few. AND WHO HE IS NEVER CHANGES!
Lord helps us to see good in bad. May we know this isn’t our home. May we know YOU. May our circumstances make us yearn for You and our Forever Home. May we not get mad at You when bad things happen. May we TRUST You, depend on You, and share You with others. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear and hearts longing for You. Only You can bring peace and hope. Come quickly, Lord! In Jesus name I pray.
You are the light of the world. Matthew 5:14
